The recent ABC TV Four Corners programme, Betrayal of Trust, has highlighted what unfortunately is a long standing issue. The National Children's Commissioner has commented on the issues raised as has the Prime Minister. There was also subsequent reporting by ABC Online on number of matters including other allegations, the political response and privatisation. In response the Commonwealth Government issued a media release in relation to strengthening Child Care Subsidy rules. In relation to NSW, ABC Online reported that a NSW Upper House committee was to launch an inquiry into the childcare sector and also reported on documents that exposed safety breaches at G8 Education childcare centres. The Conversation has published a very good summary of the issues. For what it is worth I will be giving my own views on solutions in a future post.
